OIG Exclusion Screening
The process of checking employees, contractors, and vendors against the OIG LEIE (and often SAM.gov) to confirm none are excluded from federal health-care programs.
In depth
Effective screening checks each individual at hire and then monthly against the LEIE, retains a dated, name-by-name record of every check, and resolves potential matches by verifying identifiers. Many pharmacies also screen the federal SAM.gov exclusions for broader coverage. The audit failure mode is not having proof: an inspector wants to see who was screened, against which list, and when. Automating the monthly run and storing certificates is the difference between a clean finding and a citation.
