PDMP
A state-run electronic database that tracks dispensing of controlled substances. Most states require pharmacies to report dispensing data and many require prescribers or pharmacists to check it.

PDMPs are operated state by state, so reporting timelines, query mandates, and integration options differ. For a pharmacy, compliance means timely, accurate dispensing submissions in the required format and following any state mandate to review the PDMP in defined circumstances. PDMP duties intersect with controlled-substance recordkeeping and are a frequent topic in board inspections.
